Instagram Beauty Impulse Buys from Dae, RMS, and Bali Body That I Do Not Regret

Like Pokemon Go (I’m told), when it comes to trending Instagram beauty buys, I gotta collect ‘em all - especially if it comes in Millenial Pink. Say what you will about the algorithm, but sometimes Instagram just knows what I didn’t know I needed. I’ve kissed a few proverbial frogs (note to self: do not buy cheap swimwear off of Instagram…) but now I do a little more research before hitting “Add to Cart,” and of course I check EWG’s Skindeep database to make sure I’m not buying something loaded with microplastics, carcinogens, and endocrine disruptors.

I’m sharing products from three brands that I discovered via Instagram ads (seriously) that I use if not daily, ritually.

RMS EYESHADOW, RMS LUMINZER + RMS BURUTI BRONZER

I love everything by RMS, from the sleek packaging to the creamy, clean formulations to the subtle shimmer in many of their face and eye creams. The little frosted glass pots are the perfect size for fingers or brushes (I use a smaller brush for the eyeshadow and a bigger one for the bronzer, although both go on very easily with finger application too). The eyeshadow is also the perfect base for a sweep of glitter shadow over it, too. RMS gets a 1 on the scale of 1-10 for toxicity (which is GREAT! 10 is basically toxic sludge, i.e. most mainstream eau de toilette brands ahem Marc Jacobs, Calvin Klein, Chanel, etc.) from EWG’s Skindeep database, which makes it a win for me!

BALI BODY TANNING OIL WITH SPF

Full disclosure: at 3.4oz, this bottle is tiny. But it is definitely mighty - this little guy has gotten me through vacations in Miami, the Bahamas, Turks and Caicos, plus poolside in between. It’s SPF 15, which isn’t as much as my dermatologist would like, but it’s enough to stop me from burning and instead giving me a golden glow. It’s a very thick, rich feeling oil that goes on a little more like a lotion than you’d expect of an oil. A little goes a long way, and I generally use it on my arms and legs, while putting a heavier SPF on my chest, shoulders and face, which are more likely to burn and sustain sun damage. Also of note: Not only is this highly moisturizing (it is an oil, after all!) but Bali Body gives me a deeper bronze tan than any other product I use, which is definitely very welcomed.

34 weeks pregnant in the Bahamas last year!

Bali Body also makes a few self-tanning products, if you’re not a sun-worshipper like I am. (Again, sorry dermatologists!)

DAE SHAMPOO + DAE CONDITIONER

What can I say about Dae other than that it works. I am guaranteed a good hair day when I use these. Honestly, I am not crazy about the packaging - I love the way it looks but squeezing a square shampoo and conditioner bottle is pretty awkward, and the pumps are basically useless - they distribute the tiniest amount ever so you’re better off just using the lids that come with the bottles. I loved these so much I have given them as gifts to my SIL and BFF, and then my SIL gifted me the Prickly Pear Hair Oil. (Oh, and I also have the hair brush and scalp massager…yes, I am officially obsessed with Dae.)
