The Lake Marnie Caftan is the Perfect New England Beach Vacation Outfit

And by that I mean - it’s the perfect warm weather outfit, full stop. We left New England a week ago but I still wear this caftan ALL. THE. TIME. I’ve worn it belted to work, and I wore it yesterday when our friends came over for dinner - it’s so easy and breezy to wear while I’m hustling around the house, and if I’m being completely honest, as a postpartum mom, it’s wonderful to not have to suck in my tummy with something more form-fitting. I think the lightweight fabric does a great job of skimming my figure and not just hiding me under a huge tent. For me, the sleeves are a little long so I rolled them twice; they stay up nicely and it gives the sleeve a structured shape that compliments the stripes well. It’s currently on sale at Lake Pajamas for $50 (!!!) and it’s also available here in Blue stripes. I wore my “fancy” sandals to the beach and they were totally fine even though I wouldn’t call them beach shoes. It was an upgrade from the Amazon water shoes I usually wear to the beach that make my husband throw up in his mouth a little every time he sees them. (One thing about me is that I cannot bear even the thought of stepping on, or grazing, an unidentified, slimy object in the water. Never gunna happen.) These are the Constance sandal by Joie, and I wear them at work, walking around town, running errands, etc. They were exactly what I was looking for in a sandal - something to throw on but that will make an outfit and not look shlumpy.

I paired mine with the Daisy Sun hat by Sarah Bray, a Bermuda and Palm Beach based designer with whom I have a few mutual friends. (Definitely worth a follow on Insta for the inspo.) I saw her hats all over Instagram and it haunted me in my dreams. I had to have it! This is the first time I’ve traveled with it and not only did it look cute on the beach, I could also tuck my infant son under there for some shade, too. It was a little tricky to pack, but I put it right in the middle of my suitcase and stuffed some clothes (okay, my lingerie) into the crown of the hat and then stacked clothes around the entire brim so it wouldn’t crease and it fit perfectly. (Sarah, if you’re reading this - don’t kill me!)
