In-Your-Face Glasses - Lunette Optics In Boston

It's finally safe to be outdoors again without risking frost-bite, loss of limbs, or loss-of-car-in-the-snow. A word to the wise - stock up on sunglasses before you stock up on Vitamin D.

For some extra-special sunnies and eyeglasses, I headed to Lunette Optic, where funky frames from indie imports like Face a Face and ic! Berlin outnumber mainstream labels. (Although for designer classicists, Lunette does have a beautifully curated selection of Chanel, Ray Ban, and Tom Ford.) A quick scan of the shelves revealed just as many eyeglasses in black as those with perfect pops of turquoise, fuschia, and red, bound to out even the most hardcore contact lens-devotee.

I loved discovering brands like Anne et Valentin (of the oft-imitated film-frames, see below) and Alain Mikli, who's uber-lightweight blue eyeglasses were a faultless blend of whimsical and wearable. Lunette Optic owner Ted Mogtader has also created his own line of glasses, available in-store.

Definitely check in to one of Lunette's four Massachusetts locations, but be warned - these frames are not for the faint of heart. If you're looking for something that won't get you noticed, might I suggest the mall, instead?
