Roadtrip to The Yachtsman Hotel & Marina Club in Kennebunkport, Maine

BFF roadtrip alert, right over here, y’all. I feel like I have spent this year perfecting the noble art of the Weekend Getaway. I live for quick little jaunts to check out new spots in new towns, and I think I landed on an instant favorite with The Yachtsman Hotel & Marina Club in Kennebunkport, Maine, easily the cutest boutique hotel in the cutest town in New England, where I went with my bestie The Bostonista a few weeks ago.

We are both - how can I say this - relaxed types (read: for every hour of activity, we need at least an hour of phone-scrolling or reading), but there was so much to do here we pretty much filled our two days here with activities, from eating at The Boathouse Restaurant and cocktailing dockside (yes, those count as activities) to bike-rides to the beach, shopping in town, and lounging by the floating pool. (Again, a respectable activity.)

Here are some highlights from the hotel and from around Kennebunkport.

THE ROOMS AT THE YACHTSMAN HOTEL + MARINA CLUB:

Every room comes with a view. Watch the boats float by from the adorably upholstered beds, or hang out in a cozy Adirondack chair on your own private back patio.

The hotel is a renovated motel, and they did a great job combining a vintage look with classic New England cabin aesthetics - I loved the bold, clashing prints of the headboard and textiles, and the bright blue bedside tables. Definitely Pinterest-worthy.

THE FLOATING POOL

With so much jagged coastline, land is tight in KPT (that’s Kennebunkport for cool ppl in the know FYI), so The Yachtsman had a floating pool built. The person that built it towed it down the marina to install it - I love that image!

Remember how I said the rooms look out onto the Marina? This was the view from our room one rainy morning. SO pretty, even when the weather wasn’t perfect!

HAPPY HOUR ON THE DOCK

Whoopie pies are standard fare at The Yachtsman. Grab one to snack on with drinks in the afternoon like I did. (Okay, maybe I had two…)

AROUND TOWN

Colony beach is just a five-minute bike ride away from the hotel. It’s dog friendly in the afternoons, so get ready to see some adorable pups splashing around in the surf.

The Bostonista

St. Ann’s Episcopal Church is also a very short ride from Colony Beach and the hotel. It’s so beautiful! We saw it from the road and pulled over to take pictures - a lot of other people were doing the same.

THE BOATHOUSE FOR DINNER

Dinner at The Boathouse is an absolute must. It’s right in the middle of town, and is pretty much the place to see and be seen on a night during season. Super fresh seafood (I had the Tuna Poke Bowl, it was fresh, clean and crunchy) and a great cocktail menu. Plus, happy hour starts early, at 3pm!

If you’re looking for an awesome photographer, check out Chris Smith of Ocean Exposure. He took photos of The Bostonista and I on our trip and he was awesome to work with, laid back, and let us be goofy.
