Alexa Buckley and Sarah Pierson, founders of Margaux. a newly-launched line of custom, made-to-measure ballet flats, spent four years at Harvard before making the move to NYC to start their company.

Between sessions spent hitting the books as History and Government majors, the pair found time to hit the town, cultivating a list of must-stops in Beantown for shopping, sipping, eating, and people-watching. When they made the switch from New England to New York, it wasn't long before they rounded up a few faves in the Big Apple, as well.

For these ballet-flat-loving beauties, the future is bright and the cocktails are hard-earned. See where the ladies love to eat, shop and play in both cities, and stay tuned for more about Margaux here on the blog in the coming weeks.

RESTAURANT:

Alexa Buckley: My favorite restaurant in NYC is definitely Barbuto - it never gets old. As for Boston, I would have to say Paramount on Charles Street (especially for their brunch).

Sarah Pierson: In New York, L’Artusi in the West Village. It's become something of a tradition for celebratory meals! I also love the earthy, exotic Mediterranean flavors at Oleana, a cozy spot in Cambridge -and having dinner outdoors in their leafy garden on a warm night. 

BAR:

AB: My current favorite in NY is the Happiest Hour (admittedly for both their burgers and their cocktails). In Boston, I will be forever loyal to Russell House Tavern in Cambridge.

SP: In New York, Dear Irving in Gramercy (order the Vice Versa). In Cambridge, Russell House Tavern (one of our favorite spots)! We’ve nearly memorized the menu by now - Burger, brussels sprouts, and a Bee’s Knees. 

SHOPPING

AB: In New York - unoriginal as it is - Barney's is always a treat. In Boston, there is nothing better than walking down Newbury Street (ice cream in hand) in the spring!

SP: In New York, Soho. Our first office was on West Broadway, just around the corner from some of the most gorgeous - not to mention innovative - stores in New York. It was an inspiring place to be as we were in the early stages of building Margaux! In Boston, window-shopping on Charles Street in Boston.

PEOPLE WATCHING:

AB: Just about anywhere in New York... but always particularly entertaining at Ground Support in Soho around 9am - it is a zoo of entrepreneurs. As for Boston: Henrietta's Table! For both the pumpkin bread and the people watching.

SP: In NYC, Lincoln Center during fashion week! In Boston, at breakfast at Henrietta’s Table on a Sunday morning - pancakes in-hand.
